Madison Square Garden closing for renovation starting in 2011

Sorry I don't have the NY Times link on me, but yesterday, they ran a story that introduced the timetable for the renovation of Madison Square Garden.

For 3 summers, starting next summer, the Garden will be closed from the end of the Rangers/Knicks season through the start of the Rangers season that next fall to allow for huge renovations that include all sorts of amenities common to the modern event center (party decks, concessions located so you do not leave the main bowl area, etc.).  The only troubling renovation that was unexpected was 2 foot bridges running parallel lengthwise across the Garden for fans to mill around on.  Sounds cool enough, but what bothers me about it is that it will change the view of the ceiling of the Garden, which is the most distinctive feature of the place (the ceiling will apparently remain intact).

Anyhow, I thought this was newsworthy as so much Rock 'N' Roll history has happened in that place, and sad to see more won't be made for a few years after this summer.  It would also hint to me that these will be the last Pearl Jam shows at the Garden for quite some time as they tend to hit North American cities between May and September.
