Really, are they? It's an interesting question, posed by our very own Matt Berry. This story will hopefully be the first of many columns, under the banner Almost Relevant.
So give it a read and give the man a shout, if you could. And if you're nice, we might even get more columns from him in the future...

Pfsh. I'm with you on Nevermind, that album got old quick. And yes, I my Fast-Forwarding finger gets itchy on Blood Sugar. Dad is hooked on Modern Times. I think it's listenable crap. His voice is gone and the band is playing by numbers. Ironically enough, my friend Allie and I visited my dad's place two summers ago... when she was stark raving mad about the new Dave Matthews Band album, Stand Up. Dad and I kind of looked at each other like, 'wtf?' ...and now, Dad's cheerleading for past-his-prime Dylan just like Allie did for Dave. Gag.
The greatest albums of the early 90's? Is Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (1995) early enough?
I always thought the album of the late 1990s was Soundgarden's Down on the Upside. Superunknown was great, but I think that one and Badmotorfinger were both better.
Speaking of which... what the hell has happened to Chris Cornell in the past 5 years? He was the baddest dude on the planet! Now...yikes. Underwear ads, James Bond, Michael Jackson covers...getting old is a bitch.

I'm not a big Badmotorfinger fan, and Superunknown is one of my five favorite albums of all time.
I'm not much of a Pumpkins fan, Billy Corgan is just too grating for me to listen to. As far as my list of the best albums of the 90s, I think mine went something like this:
1. Pearl Jam- Vitalogy 2. REM- Automatic for the People 3. Soundgarden- Superunknown 4. REM- New Adventures in Hi-Fi 5. Pearl Jam- Ten 6. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Californication (It IS better than BSSM) 7. Pearl Jam- Vs. 8. Neil Young- Mirror Ball 9. Bob Dylan- Time Out of Mind 10. Nirvana- In Utero
It's nice to see you're not biased towards Pearl Jam though... ;)
But hey, at least you chose a worthy band.

Hehe, those aren't THE best albums of the 90s, they're just my favorites. What can I say? Like Nick's list of the 60s wouldn't have 5 Beatles albums on it?
1. The Beatles - Abbey Road 2. Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland 3. The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed 4. The Beatles - The White Album 5. The Beatles - Rubber Soul 6. The Kinks - The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society 7. The Beatles - Revolver 8. Faces - First Step 9. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 10. The Sonics - The Sonics Boom! 11. The Who - The Who Sell Out
Well, 3 Beatles albums anyway. I'm sure I'm missing some far-out 60s classic here, though. But that's a good representation of where I am, I think.
EDIT: Make that 4. How did I forget Revolver? This list now goes to 11.

Hmm, Sonics Boom is that good, eh? That'll make its way into my next round of purchases, I've grown to really like their debut album. If I'm ever in a band, "Strychnine" will be one of the covers we play. So damn cool.
They didn't have a lot, so anything by the Sonics is definitely worth owning. I felt it was pretty necessary to include them somewhere on the list, yanno?
