New Releases and Techinical Difficulties

Hi folks. I'm having some computer troubles this week that I hope will be resolved soon.

In the meantime, here are the new releases for the week of April 17, 2007:

The Comas: Spells
Cowboy Junkies: At the End of the Path of Paths Taken
The Hold Steady: Live at Fingerprints
Hot Fuzz: Original Soundtrack
Page McConnell: Page McConnell
Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero

When everything is back to normal, we'll have some new stories, short fiction, and the lastest installments of our staff picks for you.

Have a good one till then, folks.

Well, the computer problems were resolved, in that I had to get a new one. So it might a while before I can update things.

Again, to tide the mad, rabid, foaming masses off... here's the new releases for the week of April 24:

Artic Monkeys: Favourite Worst Nightmare
Burning Brides: Hang Love
The Detroit Cobras: Tied And True
Dntel: Dumb Luck
Golden Smog: Blood On The Slacks
Colin Hay: Are you Lookin' At Me?
Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band: EP
Patti Smith: Twelve

Enjoy, and hopefully we'll have a new and improved site up soon!

In the meantime, feel free to talk amongst yourselves.

The new Arctic Monkeys album should be arriving on my doormat tomorrow, I've heard good things, the lead single is solid.

Other releases on the horizon: I'm waiting reviews of the new Tori Amos disk before I take the plunge  There's an album on the way from a group called Lavender Diamond, who I saw as a support act for The Decemberists.  Weird low-fi hippy stuff, very strange lead singer (as far as her stage persona goes), but I'm a big fan of their EP, so I'm quite looking forward to that.

Not new, but I'm also waiting for a couple of Gogol Bordello cds.

I should probably diversify my music tastes and listen to new stuff coming out, but none of if intrigues me very much.

I haven't heard either yet, but give Colin Hay or the Burning Brides a try. Colin Hay has a real cool, mellow singer/songwriter feel, and nothing's forced.

And Burning Brides are an ass-kicking trio from Philadelphia, at least they were the last time I heard them. I actually saw them live on the second stage of Lollapalooza in 2003 (the last one that actually toured; Jane's Addiction, Queens of the Stone Age and Audioslave headlined). Anyway, they were badass.

I'll be checking out the Detroit Cobras and Dntel at some point, too, methinks.

New Releases for the week of May 1, 2007:

Tori Amos: American Doll Posse
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: Baby 81
Dinosaur Jr.: Beyond
Feist: The Reminder
Ari Hest: Break-in
John McLaughlin: Indiana
Warren Zevon: Preludes

There's a few on that list that I'm pretty pumped for, and I'll be at Zia Records tonight to pick up BRMC's new one.

Thoughts?

Is Warren Zevon now the white Tupac?

I'm tempted with Beyond, from what I hear it's an excellent return. I'll be buying American Doll Posse on payday - if the reviews can be trusted it seems the fluff has been kept to a minimum for such a packed cd. It looks like a labour of love.

I'm going to pimp Lavender Diamond once more before their debut album release on Monday - you can hear a sample of each track here: http://www.lavenderdiamond.com/player.html
I'm really looking forward to this one.
