(this will be an attempt to write a post without praising the virtues of vladimir sobotka...)
best hockey game i have seen since Game 6 of the B's Montreal series two years ago... i even said it to myself prior to Bergeron scoring so even if the B's lost last night, i woulda acknowledged its wonderfulness... last night's game was even better than the gold-medal game of this past Olympics...
** the pace of the 3rd period was brilliant... how those guys can make plays at that speed and with that much threat-of-contact is beyond me...
** mark recchi's assist on the Bergeron goal was brilliant... a 42-year-old man making plays like that? wow
** Grier's goal and Wideman's goal demonstrated the level of talent the NHL has to offer- both goals were ripped into the only spots they coulda been... especially Wideman's laser... wow.
** Boychuck's hit on that Buffalo dude? wow... loved it. thats what happens when weak-side wingers bust their ass to provide support to their D-men, allowing Boychuck the freedom to run at Ellis or Ennis or whatever his name is.
** ok, now for my Sobotka-praise... he and his line were awesome. they provide something on nearly every shift and Sobotka's confidence is oozing out of his head... that little flip back-hand pass to Wideman was something Oates used to leave for Neely (or Hull)... and then he dropped the gloves at the end- maybe he didn't win the fight but at least he showed up...
** please, Lucic- come back- we need you... him and Marco Sturm have to have an impact on this series...
I think you're being hard on Lucic. Just because he's been off the scoreboard doesn't mean he hasn't been more than solid lately. He's getting to the puck and creating havoc along the walls. I'll take that every day.
That said...
GODDAMN, I SAID GODDAMN!

lucic is the man and maybe i have been too hard on him (hee, hee- he said 'hard on...') but he is so much more effective on the line with Begin and Thorton... Julien made a smart move by switching Lucic and Paille half-way through last night's game... there is just something missing with Lucic this year- even the fight he got into last night- i loved it and that is what he should be doing but he also should've have rearranged Rivet's face- instead it was a draw...
this series just gets better and better... Rask and Miller and Bergeron Roy... just awesome hockey
that was as devestating a loss as i have seen in my 38 years... seriously... almost as bad as '03 for the Sox... wow...
as much as it wasn't Julien's fault and as much as i think he is an excellent coach, there is no way he can lead this team next year... there is just too much baggage there right now... he has to go...
and as much as i give Marc Savard credit for coming back from his head injury, he played awful last night... check out two of the Flyers goals- he was sweep-checking like a mite or a pee-wee (especially on Breier's goal...) and it was his bone-headed play that lead to the "too many men" penalty...
ugh
but, give the Flyers credit... wow... very resilient... they have a team and play a style that is easy to like and root for- aggressive, hard-hitting, up-tempo... Carcillo and Hartnell and Richards and Pronger and Gagne- all solid players who you hate but respect...
but the B's did indeed choke... Barry Melrose called it the worst loss in Bruins history and i couldn't agree more... one of the worst in Boston sports history...
