RE: What are you listening to?

Clearly, everyone else's CD player and iPod is broken, hehe.

Today is a very nice day. It's not too hot (by Phoenix standards), I was let out of work two hours early, and dammit if it didn't feel like a good day for one of the greatest summer album of all time:

Pearl Jam - Yield

Ahhhhhhhh........

I listened to that this week as well. I don't rank it as highly as other PJ albums (I personally like Riot Act better), but there is no such thing as a bad PJ album.

Today I rediscovered how much I like the Dead Kennedys. Give me convenience or give me death!

For all you Pearl Jam fans (I think there might be one or two of you who use these boards) how much do you buy the DK influence? I think I hear a lot of it, but you guys are the experts...

Also, don't know if anyone cares, but I feel like there's a lot of Mudhoney influence on Modest Mouse. Like Modest Mouse is Mudhoney on valium and without the live talent/longevity.

Your thoughts?

I totally see the Dead Kennedys connection now, after hearing them in the car today. I'd heard Pearl Jam cover "Bleed for Me" (one of the best things I've ever seen them do live), but to hear the rest of it, like Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death, you can really hear where the edge came from. Stone Gossard's riffs owe a lot to them, and a lot of Eddie Vedder's lyrical style obviously came from Jello Biafra.

So yeah, give them a chance, fellow PJ fans, and the Dead Kennedys could become one of your favorite bands if they weren't already.

Now... the Mudhoney/Modest Mouse thing is really weird, but after checking it out, yeah, I can hear that, too. Not as obvious as PJ/DK, but it's definitely there. Only slowed down and no live energy.

i gave the dead kennedys a listen when i was a young lad.....but the whole punk thing, with the exception of about three bands, really never took for me. from what i remember though , jello had a really distinctive falsetto, and so does mr. vedder, but ill have to dig out my copy of give me convenience out of the old junkyard of my past listening habits and give it a twirl.

as for modest mouse, i know two of their songs(float on and the ocean breaths salty) so i cannot say.

Dead Kennedys are awesome and I'm not really into punk all that much...it was just the other day I was listening/playing along to 'Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables'

at the moment I'm still listening to Jeff Buckley
10 years ago today :(

I'm listening to www.last.fm/users/pattymcg!!!

Strangely, I'm showing statistical spikes in the Jeff Buckley, DJ Assault, and James Brown sectors. Curious. Also, conditions are primed for an influx of George Thorogood activity in T-minus 7 seconds. Ears, brace for impact!

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

They've made better albums, but this one is still excellent, and one of the best of the year so far.

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf

The mail hasn't come yet, so I haven't gotten my hands on Era Vulgaris yet, which came out today (!!!!). So, this is keeping me nicely occupied in the meantime.
