What Have You Spun for Me Lately?
(
1 2 3 4 5 … 6
)
(Preview)
Just thought of a new title for the What You've Been Listening to threads we've had in the past. Considering my recent shows (Michael Franti & Spearhead, Pearl Jam, Black Keys), that's mostly what I've been listening to. On the Franti end, been hanging out on his website and listening to "So...

Crazy Pearl Jam Day!!
(Preview)
Noon: epic battle with pearljam.com to get Eddie Vedder tickets. Wanted the 22nd, ended up with the 21st (at the Beacon) 1PM: lunch time to J&R for epic battle with Mary J. Blige zealots to get into the store to purchase the Vs./Vitalogy reissue mini box. Score + bonus point (J&R offered...

Tres Mts.
(Preview)
Anyone else check out the free track in advance on the album release next month? I enjoyed it. Very 90s punk rock sounding, but with McCready facemelting included. I decided to get tickets to see them on March 26th in New York City (Grammercy Theater). Should be a fun time seeing 2/5 of Pearl Jam, the d...

The Proper Treatment
(Preview)
The subject is a little strange because the times have changed so much...but just curious with the small community whether you still give an album that whole proper listen, old school style...you know, just waiting for the album to actually be released, buying it on CD, LP, etc., and then shutting of...

Goodbye White Stripes
(Preview)
Just curious what the reactions are here. Personally, I could never quite fully get into them despite enjoying at least a few songs here and there. Much preferred White's other projects over the past few years (Raconteurs and Dead Weather).

Vs./Vitalogy Reissue
(Preview)
Also curious on thoughts and which edition people will get. Legacy? Each sold separately with 3 bonus tracks each (Cready Stomp being the only track none of us have heard in any form). Deluxe? Vs. Legacy + Vitalogy Legacy + Orpheum Theater show (apparently only most of it as 6 tracks unknown so far wi...

NEW Pearl Jam Live album
(
1 2
)
(Preview)
So I am not sure what the point of releasing a single disc live album is for Pearl Jam (and treating it as a sequel to Live on Two Legs), but here it is: Live On Ten Legs - 1/18/11 - culled from Pearl Jam's tours from 2003-2010 1. Arms Aloft 2. Worldwide Suicide 3. Animal 4. Got Some 5. State of Love and Trust 6. I...

Teleprompters at Concerts
(Preview)
Frankly, I have never noticed them before. However, I was watching Bruce Springsteen's London Calling concert on Blu Ray (new toy, awesomeness, especially with the concert film experience), and first noticed one attached to Max Weinberg's drum set, then noticed it on the front speaker in front of...

The Black Keys- Brothers
(Preview)
I've had the album for some time now (SHH! DON'T TELL!), so I've had ample time to digest it. The two words that keep coming to mind are "Holy" and "Crap." It's amazing to see where their career has taken them. I'll hopefully get a review done this weekend, after I move to my new...

Happy 20th PEARL JAM!!
(Preview)
I wanted to make sure to make a note of it today. They've meant a lot to a bunch of us over the years. For me, they really started my obsession with rock music to a great degree. I had liked other bands and such, but they were the first I really spent an inordinate amount of energy and resources devoting tim...

Dylan discussion inspired by the Lanois article
(Preview)
I've been on a big Dylan kick recently in anticipation of The Witmark Demos, and having taken advantage of a recent sale I'm now only missing one studio album (Under the Red Sky). As a huge Dylan fan, I hang my head in shame that I'd been put off buying Street Legal by a few unfavourable reviews. It's abs...

The Springsteen Thread
(Preview)
Can't remember if this is already in existence or if that was something that was being discussed on the old GTW forums, but I've been in a Nick-like run of this lately, and wanted to see if anyone else was up to some Springsteen. Last year, I really discovered the Hammersmith Odeon '75 show and rode a year...

Fistful of Mercy
(Preview)
At the risk of starting another Ben Harper/Lenny Kravitz feud...Ben Harper has yet another new outfit he's working with - this one with Dhani Harrison and Joseph Arther called Fistful of Mercy. Amazon has the album coming out October 5th, Rolling Stone claims they are touring in October this year,...

Workout Music
(Preview)
A little background before I discuss the ultimate point in the thread topic: from 2007, when I moved to Brooklyn, through July of this year, my exercise has been relatively simple - walking home from work. Sounds strange, and depending on how far you live from your office, ultimately ineffective....

Gilmour to Join Waters for Comfortably Numb
(Preview)
Billboard is reporting that David Gilmour will join Roger Waters at an undisclosed date on Waters' The Wall tour and will perform Comfortably Numb with him as a return favor for their recent joint appearance. Too bad I am not going to any of these dates.

Pearl Jam - Better Days
(Preview)
Curious what people's thoughts are. I think this would have added a lot of depth if they included it on Backspacer. I am not too critical of the album, like Nick, but I think it needed a bit more length and depth, especially as compared to their other albums. I feel like if Long Road had a kid with Oceans,...

Pearl Jam tour thread 2010
(

(Preview)
Thought maybe this would lend some activity to the board for the next few weeks and maybe spur some discussion. Let's start it off with what we all hope is the shortest set of the Spring tour: 5/1/10 - New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, New Orleans, LA Set: So You Wanna Be a Rock 'N' Roll Star, Lukin...

Pearl Jam on a stage near me
(
1 2
)
(Preview)
Despite the fact that I only like 1.5 songs on Backspacer, I jumped over my mother to get tickets for two shows: May 15 in Hartford and the 17th in Boston. I think I can happily bare three minutes of "the Fixer" in a three-hour show. And I fully expect to have a beer with The Train on Causeway Stre...

Madison Square Garden closing for renovation starting in 2011
(Preview)
Sorry I don't have the NY Times link on me, but yesterday, they ran a story that introduced the timetable for the renovation of Madison Square Garden. For 3 summers, starting next summer, the Garden will be closed from the end of the Rangers/Knicks season through the start of the Rangers season that ne...

New albums from old friends
(Preview)
So it looks like it will be another busy year, so I thought I'd strike the first blow on this. Not a new song (came out last year), but the album is supposed to drop June 8th, a year after it was first promsed. If it doesn't come out then, I am officially declaring it the Chinese Democracy of hiphop. Witho...
