Actually, since about 2006, Eddie has played parts of songs and then put down the guitar, for instance, the new intro to Porch he plays, the intro to Severed Hand, and I can't think of another song off the top of my head, but he does that from time to time. It's a pretty new thing though.

Meanwhile, I am rapidly becoming more impatient by the minute for work to end TOMORROW so I can head over to the Garden. I swear I am going to miss the build to these shows and the weeks of anticipation maybe even more than the shows themselves. Maybe. I might just be that obsessed.

Good news is I put the pearl jam down the last couple of days to focus on the Black Keys since they are opening, have a new album, and will feature and 4 piece band tomorrow night at the Garden for only the second time (the first time coming just a few days ago at a free random show here that was announced 4 hours before they played it...I was not there).

Four piece band? THAT'S CHEATING! I'm actually legitimately distressed by that development.

The Black Keys are taking HGH! They got it from Galea!

Actually, I am interested to see it, legit. I mean, when I saw Dan Auerbach with Hacienda last year, I thought it was better than any Black Keys show I had seen.

In any event, THE WAITING DROVE ME MAD!!! I am seriously ants-in-the-pants waiting for work to end and to head over the Madison Square Garden for tonight's show.

5/20/10 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

Set: Sometimes, Breakerfall, Last Exit, Animal, The Fixer, Severed Hand, Small Town, I Am Mine, Comatose, Force of Nature, Even Flow, Low Light, Down, I Got Id, Army Reserve, Insignificance, Unthought Known, Do the Evolution

Encore: The End (w/string quartet), Lukin (w/string quartet), Just Breathe (w/string quartet), You Are, Love Reign O'er Me, State of Love and Trust, Once, Porch

Encore 2: Jeremy, Leash, Mankind, Crazy Mary, I Believe in Miracles, Alive, Indifference

Maybe a hair over 2.5 hours, 33 songs, and a great time. The more the show sinks in, the more I like it really. A whole lot of fun, and a decent crowd, though rarely to the level that place has been before. Something about this show felt like a dress rehearsal for tonight. My friends all agreed with me on that one. We all also called in the Ten show. Not as great a crowd reaction as I expected for Mankind, which was awesome to hear again for the first time in years. Sometimes and Force of Nature were the only songs I had not heard live before, but I was cool with that since I had a blast.

Also, the Black Keys were great. Basically played Thickfreakness, 10 AM Automatic, Your Touch, then a whole lot of stuff off Brothers which was all done with 2 more band members, then closed with I Got Mine which was really awesome. The non-Brothers songs were just Dan and Pat.

5/21/10 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

Set: Corduroy, Hail Hail, Do the Evolution, World Wide Suicide, Got Some, Breath, Nothingman, I'm Open, Unthought Known, Grievance, Amongst the Waves, Present Tense, Not For You/Modern Girl, Push Me Pull Me, Rats, Daughter/WMA, The Fixer, Why Go

Encore: The End (w/string quartet), Just Breathe (w/string quartet), Lukin (more than one way to skin a cat version) (w/string quartet), Black Red Yellow, Sweet Lew, Given to Fly, Spin the Black Circle, Rearviewmirror

Encore 2: Wasted Reprise, Better Man/Save It For Later, Black, The Real Me, Hunger Strike (w/Ben Bridwell), Alive, Kick Out the Jams, Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banner

In my life, I never thought I would see Philly 4 topped, especially by a 2.5 hour set. That may just have happened. I could talk for hours and write a book about how special this show was, and even then it couldn't capture what happened last night. The sequencing of songs was perfect, the crowd was the best I have ever seen, the band was as loose and near perfect as I've ever seen, and the emotion and drama of that final encore may never ever be topped. From 4th row Mike's side on the side of the stage, Eddie Vedder was having a very difficult time keeping his composure from the emotion coming at him from the audience. This was hands down the best MSG show of the 8 I've seen. It still hasn't all sunk in.

I sat back this afternoon, and tried to write a review for the site about these two shows, particularly night 2...I am still too flush with emotion to get it right. At least the people over at billboard got something written down:
