The subject is a little strange because the times have changed so much...but just curious with the small community whether you still give an album that whole proper listen, old school style...you know, just waiting for the album to actually be released, buying it on CD, LP, etc., and then shutting off the world for 45 min to an hour to just soak it in? I feel kind of burned out from mp3s at the moment, and with all these upcoming albums that I will be interested in, I've decided to give "The Proper Treatment" to them...and I did not give Live on Ten Legs even this:
REM - Collapse Into Now (3/8) Tres Mts. - Three Mountains (3/15) Pearl Jam - Vs./Vitalogy reissue (3/29) Foo Fighters - whatever its being called now (April) Ben Harper - whatever that's being called (May) - yes, he has a new album coming, and no I won't be posting a new factoid about it every day
For these, I am committing to day of release, buying the CD, unwrapping the packaging, and listening to it on my CD player while flipping through the booklet and doing nothing else. This prospect has me quite excited. I am pretty sure I did this exact thing in maybe 1995 or 1998 with these same artists, so it's like being young again!
I kind of feel like I still do this, so I'm glad to hear that another one of our esteemed patrons is also back on board with this idea. Music is special, and new albums by favorite bands are exciting. I like to sit down and absorb it, like how I've heard Radiohead's The King of Limbs 30 times now, and I can't wait for the physical copy to show up.
Otherwise, I have my pants in a bunch until March 29 when the Pearl Jam box set comes out. I'm also going to the Bruins/Blackhawks game that day. Too much awesome.
