Even though most people say Elephant is their masterpiece, I'd say this is a good one to pick up for someone just getting into the band (not sure how much you've listened to them, Wes). It has the least amount of things that typically turn people off of the Stripes. There's less off key Jack singing, Meg's song is not as grating as "Passive Manipulation," and the songs are catchier, yet not necessarily poppier, than much of their other stuff.
As of now, the standouts from the album for me (except for the title track) right now are "You Don't Know What Love Is," which sounds like the Stripes mixed with Counting Crows and other 90s alt rock, "300 MPH," and "Effect and Cause," which sounds to me like if Paul McCartney made a country song
"Passive Manipulation" grating? It's, like 30 seconds! Haha.
But seriously, this one is really cool. I think Elephant was their best, but this one is actually more all over the place than the last two were. The difference between this and Get Behind Me Satan, though, is probably that it's a little more direct and straight ahead. But they've never had bagpipes and trumpets on an album the way they do here.
I dunno, jeez, it's so freaking good. Go get it, everyone who reads this.

I just got back from Boston, and there was plenty of listening going on on the plane to and from there, including:
The Beatles - Abbey Road Jimi Hendrix - The Jimi Hendrix Experience (box set) The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Plastic Fang The Stooges - Fun House Neil Young - After The Goldrush Ryan Adams - Cold Roses
Listening to the entire Hendrix box set was definitely sweet.
